It Came in the Mail: Alan Wilkis

Not many artists are brave enough to blend about 80 different musical styles into a single album for fear that it will turn into a sloppy mess (much like what happens when a certain someone's father attempts to cook dinner). Schizophrenia sufferer Alan Wilkis (and Shmalan Shmilkis) is (are) one (two?) such person (people) to attempt such a concoction of food stuffs. Keeping with the 'anonymous person's father trying to cook' analogy, he clearly likes a whole bunch of different tasting foods and thinks that they would taste even better when combined in a giant soup. Where the analogy falls down is that the food always tastes like rubbish where as Alan Wilkis' music is pure pop (read: 70s - 80s soul, electronic, and soft rock) genius.

A veritable treasure chest of fond childhood memories have never been built into a single album with such gaiety. Call it pop, call it the 70's revisited, call it what you like, 'Babies Dream Big' is just a really happy, fun and genuine album. It's like a Scissor Sisters album for people who aren't as messed up as the Scissor Sisters (or not). It's good! MPFREES Ensue:
